The BC SUPPORT Unit Patient Partner Community includes all those who partner with staff throughout the province in our efforts to support patient-oriented research in British Columbia.
As a subset of the broader community, we have a Partnership-Ready Network that is support by the Provincial Coordinating Office through the role of the Patient Engagement Lead. The Partnership-Ready Network is a diverse group of people with lived experience of the healthcare system who are trained and supported to partner with staff of our organization on issues and projects that arise from governance and operations. For members of the Network, opportunities are varied and many. For example, they may be invited to sit on hiring and review panels or to be part of a working groups. Their input may also be sought by individuals and groups looking for a broad patient perspective on policies and strategic plans.
Drawn from the Network, there is a patient partner Leadership Council that meets no less than monthly. The Council has one member from each region of the province. The Leadership Council provides advice and oversight on how to ensure that the patient partner community stays connected and is the official communication channel for ideas that come from the Partnership-Ready Network.
