Jean Ruiz, MA, is the Sr. Research Ethics Analyst (Behavioural) at the University of British Columbia, Office of Research Ethics. She is also Research Ethics BC’s (REBC) Sr Advisor and Solutions Liaison. In her role as research ethics analyst, Jean is responsible for providing policy and administrative guidance, and developing and delivering educational programs around research ethics. She manages the UBC Behavioural Research Ethics board (BREB) and BREB admin. team. She joined the UBC Clinical Research Ethics Board administration in 2007 and moved to the UBC Behavioural Board in 2011.
Jean has actively worked towards BC research ethics harmonization since 2013, when she joined the BC Ethics Harmonization Initiative (BCEHI) Advisory Committee. In 2016-2018, Jean led the development and deployment of the Provincial Research Ethics Platform (PREP), a provincial wide electronic research ethics review system based out of UBC. In the role of Sr. REBC Advisor and System Liaison, Jean is part of the REBC administration team and sits on the REBC Advisory Council as ex officio. She works with REBC network members around research ethics issues as well as system issues.
Jean came to UBC from the University of Saskatchewan where she worked in management and research in the areas of education and perceptions around health and wellness. She has a MA in History from the University of Saskatchewan.
